Canadian/Russian fests

The annual Russian Resurrection begins on Friday the 21st at the Chauvel, with it's usual equal devotion to new films and a grab-bag retrospective of older films with no apparent theme. Have to admit I drew a blank when reading through the list of films screened, but I'll probably make it to the Kazakh steppes-set Wild Field (inevitably 'this year's Tulpan!') after a glowing write-up in the latest issue of Real Time, but mostly because OMG THOSE GORGEOUS GORGEOUS PLATEAUS.

Going back to mah roots (Halifax FTW). On Sunday the 22rd at Dendy Opera Quays and a few other venues, the ever-sexy Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival begins a 4 day run, screening a short but diverse lineup of films, including Atom Egoyan's alleged return-to-form Adoration, street-philosophy doco Examined Life (feat. Slavoj Zizek, Cornel West, Judith Butler and others), WW1 flick Passchendaele, and other mini-events - including something called Darryl's Hard Liquor and Porn Festival.
